Legislators Are Seeking Additional Details Regarding the Enigmatic Drones

The White House has taken a cautious stance regarding the recent appearances of mysterious drones in New Jersey and New York, with national security officials declaring that there is "no evidence at this time that these sightings pose a threat to national security or public safety, nor do they indicate any foreign connection." Despite this, influential members of Congress are pressing for answers.

For several weeks, local residents have been noticing and documenting drones, which officials classify as commercial-grade devices, rather than typical "hobby" drones. Eyewitness reports and official confirmations reveal that these drones can be as large as 6 feet in diameter. Recently, Republican Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey intensified public fear by suggesting on Fox News that the drones were dispatched from an Iranian "mothership" off the East Coast. The Department of Defense has rejected this claim.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has stated that he looks forward to receiving a classified briefing concerning the drones in the imminent future. Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Andy King from New Jersey, along with New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand, have reached out via letters to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Michael Whitaker, asking for briefings on the subject.

Congressman Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, who is part of the Intelligence Committee, mentioned that he had received updates on the drones during the previous week and the current week. He noted, "I do not see any immediate risk to public safety. However, it is important for the public to have more information."

Several videos have become viral sensations, amassing tens of thousands of views on social media, which has sparked worries. The public's unease deepened on Wednesday when Representative Jeff Van Drew remarked on Fox News that the drones were dispatched from an Iranian "mothership" positioned off the "East Coast of the United States."

He called for the drones to be "shot down."

Specific devices are used to interfere with drone signals (called drone jammers), but these devices are usually only used by security forces.
